FAQ
Tennant Podiatry have compiled answers to some of the most common questions we hear from our patients.
What conditions do you treat?
We treat verrucas, ingrowing toenails, tendinopathies, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, fungal nail, arthritis.
Do you treat children?
Yes, we treat children of all ages but as there is some discomfort involved with verruca treatments we would advise waiting until children are of an appropriate age to be able to cope with treatment and apply topical treatments as a first line. As children's immune systems are much more active than ours and their skin does not have the same resilience, we find Verrutop is very effective.
How much does it cost?
Treatment prices vary enormously from treatment to treatment and this is dependent on whether we need to use specialist equipment or medicines, if local anaesthesia is required, and the duration of the appointment. If you are concerned about the cost, please ring or email our reception team who can answer your questions or refer you on to a clinician.
What's the difference between a chiropodist, a podiatrist and a foot health practitioner?
A Chiropodist and Podiatrist is the same thing but Podiatry is the modern term that more accurately reflects our scope of practice.
Foot Health practitioners are not Podiatrists. Only Podiatrists are regulated by the HCPC and members of the Royal College of Podiatry with a BSc Hons in Podiatry. To check if someone is insured and registered we recommend going online and checking the member is registered with the royal college of podiatry and HCPC.
To be extra safe you can check if the Podiatry clinic/practice is an Accredited practice, this is an award given to practices that are inspected by the Royal College of Podiatry and recognised for their excellence and high standards of practice.
What do Podiatrists treat?
Podiatrists are trained to deal with all foot and ankle complaints. If we can't treat your complaint we will refer you on to an expert who can. We work with a Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeon Professor if a surgical solution is required and can refer you over to him if necessary. As a practice we specialise in biomechanics, 3D printed bespoke CAD CAM design orthotics, treatment of fungal nails, verrucas and ingrowing toenails.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No you do not need a Doctor's referral.
Do you do home visits?
Yes we do Home Visits and these cost £70. The higher cost is because we can not see as many patients as when we are in clinic due to travelling time. We also have to pay the clinician for the travelling podiatrist and use a special steriliser to vacuum pack our instruments insuring they are fully sterile. Our clinicians also have an Advanced DBS certificate will cover their own parking fees and use specialist portable equipment they can carry to the patients home.
Are the treatments painful?
One of our core beliefs is that treatment should always be as pain free as possible, we always gain consent and can offer the benefit of local anaesthetic if required.
Can I claim on my medical insurance?
We are registered with many major healthcare providers. It's always worth ringing your provider to get an authorisation number to assist us with the billing purpose and ensure you are covered. Not all treatments are covered by health care providers so always check first and remember you can request us as your provider.
Are you HCPC registered?
All of our clinicians are not only HCPC registered, but are fully insured and members of the Royal College of Podiatry. We are also an Accredited Practice meaning we are fully qualified and independently regulated.
